Why is Supervision Important?

Ministers are at their best when supported and connected to God, themselves and others.

A safe, supportive and confidential space for reflection is essential for healthy working practices and a sustainable ministry.

Pastoral Supervision is a professional relationship committed to and focused on the safety, well-being and continued enhancement of ministry. Pastoral supervision exists within a relationship of trust and openness.

Pastoral Supervision reflects God’s faithful and hospitable nature. Its goal is to see ministers held and sustained by God’s grace and strength, faithfully ministering his love with integrity.

Pastoral supervision meets the requirements of Recommendation 16.45 of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, specifying that,

‘ each religious institution should ensure that all people in religious or pastoral ministry, including religious leaders, have professional supervision with a trained professional or pastoral supervisor who has a degree of independence from the institution within which the person is in ministry.’

As a Pastoral Supervisor, I want to see pastors, churches, and communities flourish due to healthy, supported and accountable leadership.
